THESE ARE THEY ...

Part Eleven
September 2004

Every moment of every day our heavenly Father is slowly but surely moving toward a glorious purpose for this world. Purpose, even the eternal purpose of our Father, determines every step we take each day of this journey, as we make our way back to Him. He has a sovereign purpose, not only for us, His chosen elect, but for all mankind as well. Whether in good times or bad, or through the darkness of night or the brighter hours of the day, and whether we like it or not, or even understand it, the eternal purposes of our Father are always being carried out. The eternal purposes of our God are ever and always moving forward in the earth, as He works with people of various callings to bring all things everywhere to a grand and glorious conclusion, and fully establish the Kingdom of God in all the earth. And He is doing all this for the benefit of every creature in every part of His creation.

Not only are all things “purpose driven” by the sovereign and omnipotent power of our Father, but there is a time for every purpose as well. The wise man has said, “To every thing there is a season (or a designated time period), and a time to every purpose under the heaven” (Ecc. 3:1-8). Notice the number of instances the word “time,” is used in these eight verses. Time relates to this earthly, physical, material realm, or to everything “ under the heaven,” and is as important to our Father and His work on earth as are His eternal purposes! The Word of God promised: “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease” (Gen. 8:22). In other words, as long as the earth remains as it is, all the events and elements relating to time shall continue to exist and prevail throughout the whole earth.

Father has a designated time when each of His eternal purposes shall be fulfilled. A certain Divine purpose can only be accomplished or completed when the time has arrived for that purpose to be fulfilled. Solomon would have us understand that there is a time assigned to every purpose under heaven. We may read a scripture or hear a word from our Father expressing His eternal purpose regarding a certain thing or event, but if the time is not right, it will be wrong for that purpose to be fulfilled. In His great wisdom, our Father fulfills His plans and purposes when the time is right to do so! And all Father’s purposes are moving on to a glorious conclusion! So also is TIME progressing and moving onward and forward, from this midnight hour, to the glorious dawn of the new morning, when all shall be made fresh and new!

Solomon also declared, “Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment. Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him. For he knoweth not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?” (Ecc. 8:5-7). According to this word, there are not only time and purpose to consider, but also judgment. The word “judgment” refers to the ability to give a fair and honest verdict, and also includes the competence to govern. The word “judgment” adds a third dimension to purpose and time when considering our Father’s work in the earth. And all this, according to Solomon, adds to “the misery of man,” which applies to the man outside of Christ. But for the spiritual man, we have this promise: “a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.” Because we are His elect, the Lord will give us the ability to discern His purpose, as well as time and judgment concerning that purpose. Solomon also said, “Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing.” Or, those who obey His com-mandment or His word shall feel and experience nothing bad.

It pays to obey the word of the Lord! God alone knows when the time is right for a certain purpose to be fulfilled. He also knows and understands the correct judgment to be rendered regarding His time and purpose, resulting in wise and just oversight of that purpose. When we consider all that is involved in Father’s time, purpose and judgment, it is better for us just to hear the word of our Father and do all His will, when He tells us to do a certain thing! To do His will and obey His Word at the right time will free us so we will “feel no evil thing.” There is no substitute for hearing the Word of our Father and doing it, when He tells us to do it! Then, purpose, time and judgment will be combined, to work together in perfect spiritual harmony, expressing and manifesting the pure and perfect will of our Father for this world!

If a person goes their own way, despite the will and the word of God, then “the misery of man is great upon him.” Why is this true? Because “he knoweth not THAT WHICH SHALL BE: for who can tell him WHEN it shall be?” Only God knows that which shall be and also when it shall be! Therefore, we must HEAR and DO all the word and will of our Father, to fulfill His Kingdom purposes on earth! The new and wonderful age of the Kingdom of God has come and is coming to the earth! God must have a prepared people for this new Day, who will diligently HEAR His Word and then faithfully DO IT, thus fulfilling the perfect will of their Father in all the earth, for His glory and honor!

The prophet of the Lord told of another of the purposes of God, when he prophesied, saying, “And the land shall tremble and sorrow: for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant” (Jer. 51:29). That was God’s word for literal Babylon, the old, historic city of the Chaldeans. They were the people who destroyed Jerusalem and the temple and took God’s people captive during the reign of King Nebuchadnezzar. But there is a much more dangerous and dreadful “Babylon” today; it is the typical “city” of spiritual bondage; it is that “great city” that spiritually enslaves the people of God within the churches and denominations of man, preventing them from truly worshiping the Lord in spirit and in truth. The Lord has called that harlot thing, “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH (Rev. 17:5).

Modern religious Babylon, which also is called “mystery Babylon,” has been described by the holy Spirit as being the churches and denominations of man! That harlot “city” of man’s confusion is entirely controlled, operated and ordered by the carnal mind of man. Of this “Babylon” of the present time we read, “And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath” (Rev. 16:19). Babylon is the “great city” that “was divided into three parts.” That harlot “city” is not only religious, but also political-governmental and economic. It is also written of her: “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities” (Rev. 18:2-5).

This prophetic word confirms Jeremiah’s prophecy, but it is a more spiritual word. Jeremiah foretold of the Lord’s judgment upon the Chaldeans in history, but his prophecy also has a future, prophetic purpose for the greater, spiritual Babylon of the present time. And both prophecies are more relevant today than at anytime in history! The Lord shall yet fulfill His prophetic Word, given to Jeremiah, which is, “every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant.” And all the spiritually wise will obey the Word of the Lord! They either have already come out of her, or they soon will. Our Father’s word and will for all of us is, “Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.”

And where do they go who leave that religious, harlot “city” of confusion, called Babylon? The Word of the Lord tells us: “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel” (Heb. 12:22-24). When we forsake the great harlot, Babylon, and come out of her, we then make our “home” in Zion, or the new Jerusalem, which also is the glorious and heavenly, spiritual “city” of the living God!

According to the Purpose
The Apostle Paul told us that “we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will” (Eph. 1:11). The prophet Isaiah declared, by the Spirit, that there is a “purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?” (Is. 14:26-27.) Father has a sovereign purpose that He has steadfastly determined to bring to fruition, not only for us, but for the whole world. And what He has purposed to do cannot be revoked, reversed or abolished by any one! His hand is stretched out to do all He has purposed to do, and no one shall ever turn it back! Father’s purpose then was to “break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders” (Is. 14:25). God’s purpose then, as revealed by Isaiah, the prophet of the Lord, was to “break the Assyrian.” The Assyrians troubled God’s people, Israel, at that time, so the Lord said He would break them. And where would He break them? “In my land, and upon my mountains,” which was the land and mountains of Israel. The Lord said He would “tread him under foot,” which is precisely what He said He would do with all His enemies (see 1 Cor. 15:25).

This is a Kingdom prophecy, for it has a future application in this, our day, which is the new Day of the Kingdom of God on earth! The Assyrians were enemies of God’s people and, therefore, enemies of the Lord. The Assyrians are typical of the sinful, Adamic nature in all of us. Old Adam makes any people or nation an enemy of God, and also an enemy of His people! It is the old, sinful Adamic mind and nature in all of us that God will destroy. He said He would destroy the Assyrian by breaking them. So also shall the Lord our God “break” the Adamic nature and mind, which is within all mankind! And where will He do that breaking? “In my land, and upon my mountains!” In this case and as it applies to this new Day of the Kingdom of God on earth, God will break old Adam and remove “him” from us, in the new, spiritual Kingdom land and upon the glorious and mighty Kingdom mountain, which is the place of His governmental throne, the holy, heavenly Mount Zion!

“Then shall his (old Adam’s) yoke depart from off them, and his burden (the burden of the Adamic man of sin within us all) depart from off their shoulders.” This is the holy “purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?” Our Father has planned and purposed it from the beginning of the ages of this world, that He would certainly deliver every person “upon the whole earth” of this sinful, Adamic mind and nature, as typified by Assyria! And no one shall ever rescind His sovereign and omnipotent plan and purpose or turn Him back from fulfilling His promised deliverance for all mankind and all nations in every part of the earth!

God does nothing by chance! All that Father does, He does according to His own sovereign purpose and grace! We have been called and chosen according to the sovereign purpose of our Father, which He purposed in Christ before the ages of this world were framed! We are not here by chance but according to His purpose! Paul tells us that we are “predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ” (Eph. 1:11-12). Father has predestinated us to become sons of God, yea, even manifest sons of God, “according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will,” and, we might add, as it pleases Him!

We are Progressing from Doing to Becoming and Being
Do you understand that we are now BECOMING all that we once did in the flesh? Carnal, fleshly works, the works of man, are the dead works of the past! The Spirit is leading us beyond works, that we might BECOME and BE all that we once performed in the flesh! For example, in the past, during our “growing-up” years, we worshiped the Lord in the congregation with hands lifted up in praise to the Lord. Now, since we have grown up and matured a little more, we have ceased doing all those things in the flesh, and are now BECOMING a praise to the Lord, in the Spirit and by the Spirit! Paul said “That we should BE to the praise of his glory,” or “with a view to our BEING to the praise of His glory” (Wuest). And indeed, we are BECOMING THAT PRAISE TO THE GLORY OF OUR FATHER! When Father is finished with us, we shall BE A PRAISE TO HIM! Then, we shall manifest His Glory! We shall show forth the Glory and the Life of our Father! We shall BE ALL HE HAS PURPOSED US TO BE! We shall BECOME in the Spirit all that we once performed in the flesh as immature babes in Christ!

We shall be His Praise, for we shall manifest Him to all mankind and the whole creation, bringing praise to His Name! We shall be His Glory, for we shall be as the stars of Heaven (Ge. 26:4, 37:9-10, Job 38:7, Ps. 8:3, & Da. 12:3), shining upon Him and giving Him all the glory, Who alone is worthy! We shall be His Life, for He has imparted the Life that He is to us! We shall be His Light, for we shall radiate and manifest Him and all that He is to the groaning creation! We shall be His Peace, for we are of that company of the redeemed who shall bring true and lasting Peace to this troubled, war-torn world! We shall be His Salvation, for the redeeming, restoring characteristics of the Lamb of God shall radiate out of us to the nations! We shall be His Truth, for we have put on His Truth, which is as a girdle upon our “loins” (Eph. 6:14). All this and more is what we are becoming in the Kingdom of our Father!

One of Job’s young friends, Elihu, said to him, “For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword” (Job 33:14-18). Whether we realize it or not, our Father is “speaking” to us, sometimes in dreams, and at other times in visions of the night. He is opening our spiritual eyes and ears, that we might see and hear. He is also “sealing” the “instructions” He gives us, so that those “instructions” can never be changed, revoked or overturned. Father will see to it that our spiritual “instructions” for our journey through this life are “sealed,” or closed up, within us. And He will also provide us with the strength, the vision, the faith and the fortitude, to follow those Divine, spiritual “instructions” to the letter!

Our Father will also “withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.” The original language for the word “withdraw,” suggests that God will “turn off” all other ideas but His. This tells me that God will prevent us from doing those things which the carnal mind of man would like to do, even those things which may be in opposition to our Father’s will. God will withdraw us from our own fleshly, carnal-minded purposes! And He will also “hide pride from man.” Or, God will cover, clothe, conceal, or hide, our own arrogance, self-exaltation and pride, thus preventing our own selfhood, or our own carnal mind, from showing and manifesting itself! This is true for the elect only! All others are going the way of the flesh! They are doing the will of God for them, according to their own calling. They are following their own “instructions,” just as we are also! What wonderful harmony of purpose there is when each one is doing the will of God, according to their own personal “instructions!” In the fullness of time (there is “time” again), God will renew the spirit in every man, causing them to walk with Him according to their new instructions in the Kingdom of God!

Years ago, I remember receiving a writing, which I believe was in the form of a poem. The title of it was something like: “Others may..., you cannot!” Others may yield to the carnal mind, but you cannot! Others may walk with the crowds, worshiping Him in churches, fellowships and meetings, but you cannot! Others may manifest their own prideful ways, but you cannot! Others may walk the low road of friendship and fellowship with the religious crowd, but you cannot! Others may dabble in the ways of the world and the ways of man, but you cannot! Others may pray openly and publicly for the ears and the hearts of man, but you cannot! Others may have one foot in the church system, and the other on the fringe of sonship, but you cannot! And on and on the list could go!

The elect of the Lord are called to walk the high road of holiness and righteousness, doing only and always the perfect will of their Father! And they have been given the spiritual where-with-all to maintain that high and holy walk with their God! Their Father withdraws them from their own purposes, so that they have no other purpose but His. He “speaks” to them in dreams or in visions of the night, even though they may not be aware of it! He imparts to them their spiritual “instructions” for their daily walk with their God! And when they follow those “instructions,” they will realize that it covers every step they have ever taken or will yet take in this world. “These are they...” who follow the Lamb wherever He leads! How blessed we are if we are one of these!

You may remember the story of Ruth and Boaz. Ruth discovered that Boaz was her kinsman, so she went to glean in his fields. When Boaz saw her and found out that she was a needy relative of his, he said to his reapers, “And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not” (Ruth 2:16). At times, we also may be blessed with some “handfuls of purpose.” Our heavenly Father may bless us beyond what is normally expected, with a blessing that He sees we need. It may be a spiritual blessing or it may be something earthly and temporal. But Father knew that we needed that blessing, so He made provision for us to be blessed with those “handfuls of purpose.” In every situation, we can say that our Father is always faithful, for He supplies all our needs!

Our Lord “saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (2 Tim. 1:9). What a blessed and holy privilege it is to be apprehended of our Father, and then called according to His own purpose and grace, “in Christ Jesus before the world began!”

The prophet Jeremiah once prophesied of this purpose, by the word of the Lord, saying, “It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin” (Jer. 36:3). During this midnight hour, the rulers in man’s corrupt realm are getting worse and worse. But we also know “there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God” (Ro. 13:1). The presidents, kings, prime ministers and other leaders in this world may be evil and corrupt, but they are all a part of the power of God; the powers that now exist in this present world are ordained of God! He has established the powers that now exist, for they are all a part of “all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin” (see also 2 Chron. 7:13-14). The word “evil,” as used here, means something bad or difficult, such as adversity, affliction, calamity or distress. God will bring “evil” upon us, which is to say, He will bring adversity, affliction or distress into our lives, as a nation and as a people, just as He did with Judah in history, to bring us to repentance. He is doing this that our nation might “return every man from his evil way; that I (the Lord) may forgive their iniquity and their sin.” And may they truly “hear” and “see” all that is taking place today, that they may turn from their wicked ways. Then the Lord will forgive our corporate sins and iniquities, and will heal our land.

In Judah’s case, the people refused to hear the word of the Lord, so the Lord brought to pass His word, which was to punish the people of Judah, who disobeyed the Lord (see Jer. 37:2, 7-10). But I do not believe the history of Judah will be repeated in our case, for our Father will continue to bring affliction, distress and judgment upon our nation and people until we, as a nation, repent and turn to the Lord. It is too late, regarding Father’s purposes for this world, to allow more time for man’s unbelief and failures. The time has come for God’s purposes for this nation to be fulfilled. God must have the repentance of His people, and according to what I see in the Spirit, He must have it soon! May the Lord soon move by His Spirit in a more positive way, to bring many more of His people in Christendom to repentance. But as for us, “these are they...” who are in a continual state of repentance, in preparation for their transformation! These are the elect and chosen ones who shall obey the word of their Father, thus bringing about the promised restoration, not only for all the elect, but for all mankind as well!

Here we have another aspect of the “purpose” of the Lord: “And they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord” (Acts 11:22-23). The word “purpose” here means a setting forth; it is as a proposal, declaring ones intention; specifically, it is the shew-bread in the temple, which was exposed before the Lord. Therefore, we are presenting before the Lord our proposal, setting forth or declaring our intention to cleave unto the Lord, and unto Him only! We are open and exposed before the Lord, as the shew-bread was in the temple, declaring to all of Heaven “that with purpose of heart they (we) would cleave unto the Lord!” In times such as these, we need to cleave unto the Lord, remain close to Him, adhere to Him, and persevere in the act of clinging to the Lord! There is no place else for us to go! Friends, fellowships, groups and family cannot do what God can do for us! We need the Lord above and beyond any other friend or family member! He is our all, so we will cling and cleave to Him; then we will discover “there is a friend that sticketh (adheres or cleaves) closer than a brother” (Pro. 18:24).

Paul told the Corinthian church that his plan to visit them and preach Christ to them had changed, yet the original plan was not given as a yea and a nay. He said to them, “When I planned this, did I do it lightly? Or do I make my plans in a worldly manner so that in the same breath I say, "Yes, yes" and "No, no"? But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not "Yes" and "No." For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by me and Silas and Timothy, was not "Yes" and "No," but in him it has always been "YES" (2 Cor. 1:17-20, NIV). Amen and amen! God’s Word of Truth is always YES, YEA AND AMEN! There is never a NO in any of Father’s purposes, which are expressed by His pure Word! Therefore, we should never say NO to the Word of the Lord! God’s anointed and holy Word of Truth should always be considered as A YES WORD, A YEA WORD, A SURE WORD AND AN AMEN WORD! The words of man will certainly be mixed words; their’s is a word that in the same breath will be both a “yes” and a “no” word. But the Word of our Father is never a nay word, a no word, a hope-so word, or a maybe-so word; our Father’s Word, ever and always will be, YEA AND AMEN!

Paul also explained the purpose of God concerning Israel, when he wrote, saying, “For it is not everybody who is a descendant of Jacob (Israel) who belongs to [the true] Israel. And they are not all the children of Abraham because they are by blood his descendants. No, [the promise was] Your descendants will be called and counted through the line of Isaac [though Abraham had an older son]. [Gen 21:9-12.] That is to say, it is not the children of the body [of Abraham] who are made God's children, but it is the offspring to whom the promise applies that shall be counted [as Abraham's true] descendants. For this is what the promise said, About this time [next year] will I return and Sarah shall have a son. [Gen 18:10.] And not only that, but this too: Rebecca conceived [two sons under exactly the same circumstances] by our forefather Isaac, And the children were yet unborn and had so far done nothing either good or evil. Even so, IN ORDER FURTHER TO CARRY OUT GOD'S PURPOSE OF SELECTION (election, choice), which depends not on works or what men can do, but on Him Who calls [them], It was said to her that the elder [son] should serve the younger [son]. [Gen 25:21-23.]” (Rom. 9:6-12, AMP).

This story tells, as no other can, how Father’s purpose, which is based on election, selection or the choice of God, is fulfilled in every detail. In the first instance, Abraham had two sons. Ishmael was Abraham’s son by Hagar, and Isaac was Abraham’s son by Sarah. The Lord chose Sarah to be the mother of the son of promise before either child was born to show that the purpose of God according to election was all that mattered. When Ishmael was born, he was rejected, and at Sarah’s request, Abraham sent both Hagar and Ishmael away into the wilderness. The essence of Abraham’s covenant with God belonged solely and exclusively to the sons of promise! But the Lord appeared to Hagar and promised to make of Ishmael a great nation as well. The promises of God did not apply to all of Abraham’s sons, only to the son of promise which, in the first instance, was Isaac.
Isaac married Rebecca, and when she was found with child they realized there were two sons in her womb. The word of the Lord through Paul described it in detail, as we quoted it above. Before either son was born, the Lord said to Rebecca, “Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger” (Gen. 25:23). Imagine that! Two babies were in the womb of the same mother, and God chose the youngest baby, over the oldest baby, so that His election, or His choice by grace, would be fulfilled, which is, “the elder shall serve the younger.” Tradition would have determined that the older son, or the firstborn son, should receive the inheritance, for that was the custom at that time. But God chose the younger son despite the traditions of the time, to illustrate the great truth of the Lord’s sovereign election by grace. So also has He chosen His elect sons today, according to His own sovereign election by grace! This is the truth of the Lord’s election, according to His eternal purpose, which He purposed in Christ, “from the foundation of the world!”

It did not matter how many sons Abraham had, only Isaac could be the son of promise, according to Father’s purpose in election! In the same way, the two babies in Rebekah’s womb had done nothing, whether good or evil, that would either prevent them from receiving the promise, or make them more worthy of the promise. Only by God’s election, according to His eternal purpose, was the promised son chosen! God’s choice of sons, or His election by grace, has nothing to do with works, or a person’s worthiness, or lack of it! When Rebekah gave birth to the twin sons, Esau was born first, so he received the birthright because he was the firstborn. But this was not the will of God according to election. It was God’s will that Jacob should receive the birthright. So the Lord arranged a set of circumstances (just as He sometimes does with us), that would fulfill His sovereign purpose in election. Jacob wanted the birthright, so he made a deal with Esau to buy the birthright from him. But Esau despised his birthright, so he gladly sold his birthright to his younger brother, Jacob. In this somewhat strange way, the will of God, according to election, was fulfilled.

The Lord said to Rebekah, “The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy” (Rom. 9:12-16). It was Father’s plan from the beginning, before the foundation of the world was laid, that Jacob, the younger son, should receive the promise not Esau. Esau, the older son, was to serve Jacob, the younger son, according to God’s election and His sovereign and eternal purpose in grace!

What is the importance of this story? What does it tell us? It tells us that Father calls and chooses His sons, according to His own purpose and grace, and not according to our own ability or lack of it! It matters not the color of our skin, the degree of our intellect, our education or lack of it, or whether or not we have been trained by one of the so-called “sonship” teachers today! If you were called and chosen by your Father in Heaven for this high calling of God in Christ, nothing else matters! You are one of His elect sons, even though you did nothing to deserve it! Just as God chose Jacob above Esau, so also is He choosing His sons above other Christians today. It is not a matter of willing it, or wanting to receive this high calling, nor is it given to “him that runneth.” You may want or desire this high calling with every fiber of your being; you may also run for it until you are worn to a frazzle. But unless Father calls you to be a son, according to His election by grace, you are not one of His sons! But, on the other hand, if God has called you and chosen you to be one of His sons and to be among His elect, then nothing can prevent you from receiving that high calling of God in Christ Jesus! Our high calling of God in Christ was settled in the Spirit before the foundation of the world was laid! The “instructions” for our walk with God, as one of His elect sons, are “sealed” within us, assuring us that we shall receive all that Father has purposed for us to receive, by His Spirit.

Our Father chose His true covenant people in history according to His eternal purpose in election. So also is the Lord calling forth an elect remnant today. He set forth the following plan in His word, saying: “Return, O faithless children [of the whole Twelve tribes], says the Lord, for I am Lord and Master and Husband to you, and I WILL TAKE YOU [not as a nation, but INDIVIDUALLY]--one from a city and two from a tribal family--and I will bring you to Zion. [Luke 15:20-22.]” (Jer. 3:14, AMP). Our Father selects and chooses His elect sons today, just as He has in the past: by calling us and then dealing with us INDIVIDUALLY! God’s plan, in calling forth His holy remnant today, is to call them as individuals. He picks and chooses among people, by calling out INDIVIDUALS, not whole churches, or fellowships, or groups, or families! We have seen God work among us, as He calls one here and another there. He has sovereignly called “one from a city, and two from a family (or tribe),” just as He said He would do! And all who are called to become sons of God have within them the proper “instructions,” which will take them all the way to His fullness, where we shall become manifest sons of our Father. We do not all have the same spiritual background, nor are we all processed the same. But all who are called and chosen of God, according to His sovereign purpose in election, shall receive the same, promised blessing, which is the very fullness of Christ, to be transformed into His glorious image and heavenly likeness!

True sons of God are not taught to be sons, nor can they join some group where sonship is taught, to become a son of God! TRUE SONS OF GOD ARE CALLED AND CHOSEN TO BE SONS BY THE SOVEREIGN WILL, PURPOSE AND ELECTION OF THEIR FATHER IN HEAVEN, and by no other way! Sonship is not about man’s will, whether your will or mine; sonship and the Kingdom of God are all about THE WILL OF GOD! If we are called and chosen as sons of God, by our omnipotent Father in Heaven, then we are one of His true sons! But it is not enough for us just to be called of God! We must also be among the CHOSEN ONES, who have heard their Master’s Voice, giving them their “instructions” for this separate and holy walk with God, by the Spirit! Our Father not only calls us, but He CHOOSES us as well!

Speaking of those who shall be first or last, Jesus said, “for many be called, but few CHOSEN” (Mt. 20:16 & 22:14). He also said, “And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, WHOM HE HATH CHOSEN, he hath shortened the days” (Mk. 13:20). And, “Ye have not chosen me, but I HAVE CHOSEN YOU” (Jo. 15:16). And again, “I have chosen you out of the world” (Jo. 15:19). And Paul wrote to say, “May blessing (praise, laudation, and eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm! Even as [in His love] HE CHOSE US [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love. For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted (revealed) as His own children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the purpose of His will [because it pleased Him and was His kind intent]“ (Eph. 1:3-5, AMP).

And Peter says we are, “disallowed indeed of men, but CHOSEN OF GOD, AND PRECIOUS” (1 Pet. 2:4). And again, “But you are A CHOSEN PEOPLE, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Pet. 2:9, NIV). As a CALLED AND CHOSEN son of your Father, do you know how very precious you are to Him? Our Father has a huge investment in His true sons, who are CALLED, CHOSEN AND FAITHFUL! Then we read, “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are CALLED, AND CHOSEN, AND FAITHFUL” (Rev. 17:14). True sons of their Father in Heaven are called, chosen and faithful, for they are walking, living and moving IN THE SPIRIT, according to the spiritual instructions within them, which they received from their Father!
Special blessings and privileges are freely given of the Lord to His chosen ones, or to His elect sons. To illustrate this great truth, we look to Israel of old, whose journeys and experiences were given for our benefit. As Paul wrote, their experiences in history “happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come” (1 Cor. 10:11). Therefore, we should pay close attention to the events of Israel’s history, for they are all given as examples for us, upon whom the ends of the ages have now come. The example, given in Israel’s history for our admonition today, is found in the record of the numbering of Israel, and reads as follows: “These are they that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho. But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun” (Num. 26:63-65). An entire generation of Israelites were eliminated because of their unbelief - all of them, that is, except Caleb and Joshua! God put within Caleb and Joshua His Spirit in greater fullness, along with the faith to believe for the fulfillment of all His holy Word of Truth! The Lord said, “Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it” (Num. 14:22-24). Does this story apply to us today? Indeed, it does!

The Kingdom “land” before us is not a literal land of earth alone, or of hills and valleys only; it is the new Kingdom Land of the spiritual blessings and riches of the Lord, which will transform this tired, old world into the new earth of Kingdom prosperity and Kingdom abundance! And there are many promises that yet await us in this new, Kingdom Land! Those who by faith can see it and believe it, as Caleb and Joshua did, shall inherit that new Kingdom Land of the abundant riches of the seven Spirits of the Lord! “These are they,” who are anointed with the seven Spirits of the Lord, which is the Spirit of the Lord in all His glorious fullness!

The Lord said that Caleb “had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully!” Caleb was one of Father’s chosen ones in history, who had another spirit, even the Spirit of God, and who is therefore, our example. Also, the Lord spoke to Moses to tell him about Joshua, saying, “Take thee Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay thine hand upon him” (Num. 27:18). Thus, by the Word of the Lord, both Caleb and Joshua were declared to be chosen of God and filled with His Spirit. Although this terminology was not used at that time, they are, nevertheless, among the called, chosen and faithful saints of the Lord. The elect today, as in that day, will have another spirit within them, even the fullness of the Spirit of the Lord!

The full text of the word of the Lord concerning Caleb, is as follows: “But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD. Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice; Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it” (Num. 14-21-24). How wonderful it is, despite the utter failures of man, that God confirms His Word and His promises, which He has given to us! Man may fail the Lord and may continue to rebel against Him and His Word, but as truly as the Lord lives, “all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.” This is His immutable, unalterable and unchangeable Word! And we should never say NO, NAY, maybe so, or hope so, to His pure, holy and anointed Word, for the Word of the Lord is the Yes Word, the Yea Word, and the Amen Word; it is the pure Word of our beloved Father in Heaven!

Perhaps we are now at this point in history, as described by the prophet Ezekiel: “Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel, saying, The days drag on and every vision comes to nothing and is not fulfilled? Tell them therefore, Thus says the Lord God: I will put an end to this proverb, and they shall use it no more as a proverb in Israel. But say to them, The days are at hand and the fulfillment of every vision. For there shall be no more any false, empty, and fruitless vision or flattering divination in the house of Israel. For I am the Lord; I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall be performed (come to pass); it shall be no more delayed or prolonged, for in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak the word and will perform it, says the Lord God. Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, The vision that [Ezekiel] sees is for many days to come, and he prophesies of the times that are far off. Therefore say to them, Thus says the Lord God: There shall none of My words be deferred any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be performed, says the Lord God” (Eze. 12:22-28, AMP).

Is it possible that we have reached the point in time when this prophetic Word shall be fulfilled in its entirety? Do you hear the Spirit saying, “There shall none of My words be deferred any more, but the word which I have spoken shall be performed?” We should expect to hear such a Word from our Father soon. This midnight hour is progressing and moving onward to its conclusion, hastening the dawn of the new morning, when everything everywhere will burst forth out of the darkness of this long night, to blossom as a fresh and new flower, filling the earth with its beauty, wonder, fragrance and life. A new Life is about to burst forth in the earth! And it will come from within us! It is within us where the seven Spirits of God are being sent to the earth! Therefore, from within us, or “out of (our) belly shall flow rivers of living water” (Jo. 7:38). What a time that will be when those rivers of living waters shall flow out of us to the needy multitudes of this world.

We may have assumed that this promise, given by Jesus, was fulfilled when we first received the baptism of the Spirit. But the scripture suggests otherwise, for we read, “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” (Jo. 7:37-38). Our Lord spoke these words, regarding those living waters flowing out of us, on the final day, or the eighth day, of the Feast of Tabernacles. Therefore, this prophecy, given by Jesus, can only be fulfilled in its entirety after we have properly celebrated that great Feast, the Feast of all Feasts, which is the Feast of Tabernacles! This wonderful prophecy has not yet been fulfilled! But it surely shall be fulfilled in glorious fullness, on the great day, or the eighth day, of the Feast of Tabernacles, which is a wonderful time of spiritual glory and blessed fullness that is yet to come!

We have seen and experienced many changes, but many more changes will yet take place, because of the seven Spirits of God that shall flow out of us like rivers of living water! Jesus gave us another promise for the future with Him in His Kingdom. “And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I DRINK IT NEW WITH YOU in my Father's kingdom” (Mt. 26:37-38). Our Lord also said, “Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day” (Jo. 6:54). And to drink it new with Him in the Kingdom of God is to receive the very fullness of the abundant Life that He is! Amen!
