THE WORLD TO COME
There is a new world or a new kosmos in our future! That new world will include a new spiritual Heaven, a literal heaven and a new earth, wherein dwelleth the righteousness of Christ (2 Peter 3:13). In that new world to come righteousness will prevail where sin and death once reigned, including the many consequences and penalties of both. That new kosmos, or the world to come, is the result of the sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary’s cross. Jesus died, not only for all mankind, but also for those new Heavens and that new Earth, which He has promised, as it is written: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,” (Jo. 3:16). The Greek word for world, as used here, is kosmos. And that word literally means the world, including the earth and its inhabitants. God loves the world so much that He gave His only begotten Son to die for the sinful condition of all the people on earth, as well as for the earth itself! And when redemption is full and complete, there shall be new Heavens and a new Earth, where the righteousness of Christ shall fully and completely prevail, along with totally redeemed people! Not all will be fully redeemed at once, but it will be “every man in his own order” (1 Cor. 15:23).
The church system has it all wrong! God is not going to take us out of the world and leave the rest of it to the devil! Rather, our Father shall fully redeem and restore this earth and make it into the new Earth, which He has promised through all His anointed prophets since the world began! The Lord foreknew this present, sin-cursed condition of the world! And also, in His foreknowledge, our Father gave His only begotten Son to die for the sins of all mankind and also for this world that He so deeply loves! And now, this scripture has new meaning for all of us: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, . . . ” God so loved this world, or this kosmos, that He willingly and purposely gave His only begotten Son to die for the sins of all mankind, and also for this earth, which is corrupted and spoiled by all the sins and iniquities of man! Through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and as a result of God’s unconditional Love, our Father now has a faithful remnant, who are committed to doing only and always His perfect will on this earth, as it is being done in Heaven, thus becoming a part of Father’s ultimate plan of redemption and restoration! We are those members of Christ, who shall be used of our Father to bring deliverance to this groaning and travailing creation!
Throughout history, we can see that the earth has been affected by man’s life. The Lord set before His people, Israel, two ways: a way of life and blessing, and a way of death and cursing (see Deut. 28:1-26). When Israel sinned and disobeyed the Lord, the people and the land were cursed, because of man’s sinful ways. Conversely, when Israel repented and turned to the Lord, the people and the land were blessed of the Lord. And when a remnant of mankind has completely and for all time repented and turned to the Lord, the earth will be fully and completely redeemed and restored, because that holy remnant came forth to do the pure and perfect will of their Father on this Earth. The intense desire of our hearts is expressed in the prayer our Lord taught us to pray, which is, “Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done IN EARTH, as it is in heaven” (Mt. 6:10). May this be more than a prayer for us; let it be both the Divine purpose and the holy expression of our lives!
When Cain took the life of his brother Abel, the Lord said
to him, “What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth
unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath
opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; When thou tillest
the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive
and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth” (Gen. 4:10-12). We may not
fully understand all this, but it is clear that the Lord heard the cry of Abel’s
blood coming from the ground, or from the earth. So, God told Cain that he would
be “cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy
brother's blood from thy hand.” Cain’s relationship to the earth
was destroyed or corrupted, so that he was “cursed from the earth,”
which had opened its “mouth” to receive his brother’s blood
from his hand.
From that moment on, when Cain tilled the soil, it would not bring forth its usual abundance, but instead would withhold its yield from him. Cain would receive only a minimal harvest from the earth, because his relationship to the earth was negatively affected! And that same fate was passed on to all future generations as well. The earth of the present only yields a portion of its “strength” for the farmers, a condition that has existed ever since Cain’s experience. Also, Cain would be “a fugitive and a vagabond... in the earth.” In the same way, every person’s relationship to the earth is affected by sin. As a general rule, if we will obey the principles of the Kingdom of God, our way on this earth will prosper. But if we disobey the Lord and His word, our relationship to the present earth, or to this second world order, will be negatively affected.
That the earth or the kosmos is also a part of Father’s plan of redemption is more clearly revealed in the story of Noah. This is what God said about the earth and all mankind in Noah’s day: “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence THROUGH THEM; and, behold, I will destroy them WITH THE EARTH” (Gen. 6:11-13). Let there be no doubt in our minds whatsoever; the earth, the world, or the kosmos, was included in Father’s plan of redemption from the very beginning! The whole earth was corrupted by man’s sins, therefore, the whole earth must be and shall be redeemed and restored, just as all mankind will be! The redemption of the earth was not God’s afterthought, for He made all His plans in the beginning, before the world existed! Nor is God’s plan for this world dependent on our faith! God shall fully redeem “all flesh,” or all mankind, as well as “the earth!” All that was corrupted through the Adamic man’s sins and iniquities shall be gloriously restored because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross!
The scriptures of Truth even tell us when and how this great and full redemption shall take place: “And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began” (Acts 3:20-21). When Christ appears in the very near future, those “times of restitution of all things” will begin! Then ALL THINGS, which God has spoken through all His holy prophets since the world began, shall be fully and gloriously redeemed and restored back into harmony with God once again!
The term, “all things,” from the original language, includes all that has declined or worsened everywhere in the world. ALL THINGS include everything everywhere that was judged, cursed or altered by God in the great judgment of Noah’s day, especially including the Earth! All that has declined, worsened, decayed and degenerated due to man’s sinful ways on earth, shall be gloriously restored, regenerated and returned to its original, pristine condition, as it was before man’s sins corrupted it! But remember, we are attempting to predict what God will do, based on our present understanding of the Scriptures. Our Father may do things quite differently than the way we think He will!
We have been quoting the anointed prophets of the Lord, from the scriptures, to show all that our Father shall fully redeem and restore in this great Kingdom Day! All that was lost in the fall shall be restored to greater completeness and fullness! In the paragraph above, we said that God would restore all things to its original, pristine condition, as it was before man’s sins corrupted it! But, there is more to it than that! All things “which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began,” shall be repaired, reconciled and restored. But, when the Lord restores those “all things” by the power of the Kingdom of God, He will not merely return them to their original state. Rather, when God restores all things, He will make it all much better than it ever was in history! When the Lord restores the Earth to make it into the new Earth, wherein dwells the righteousness of Christ, He will create an entirely NEW EARTH! And that new Earth will be a much better world, or kosmos, than anything man has ever known before, in all the history of this world! The righteousness of Christ will fill and overwhelm the new Earth, making it a much better world than has ever existed throughout man’s history!
There never ever has been a world as good, as wonderful, and as beautiful as this Earth will be when God makes it all NEW! There is no existing model for the world to come, nor are there any plans set forth by geologists to show what that new world will be like. Only God knows! And we are blessed in knowing that the Spirit is now revealing the truths of that New Earth, and of our Father’s plan to create that wonderful, New World to come! We are also blessed in knowing that we are workers together with Him in His great plan of redemption and restoration! Our only concern now should be to hear His Voice and His Word, when He speaks, and then do what our Father asks us to do, by the Spirit!
If our loving and merciful Father tells us to do something, we will do it! If He does not tell us to do something, we will obediently DO NOTHING IN AND OF THE FLESH! Lacking any Word from the Lord, we will remain in this blessed state of Rest, which is where we should have been for some time now! Like Peter, when he did not hear a word from the Lord telling him what to do, we will simply “go fishing” (John 21:3)! And for us to “go fishing” simply means that we will live our lives in this world, doing what needs to be done in the natural, while we continue seeking the Lord and His will, and walking in obedience with Him! Also, all our works in the Kingdom of our Father must be spiritual work, not the more corrupt and carnal works of the flesh! These are the spiritual principles and Kingdom realities that are guiding all the chosen and elect of the Lord in this new Day!
Noah was a man of God’s choosing - a man with a covenant relationship with the Lord, who was obedient to his Father’s Word and to the covenant that God made with him. After the flood had destroyed the earth, including all flesh that was upon it, the Lord said to Noah and his family, “And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein. And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth” (Gen. 9:7-13).
Think of that! God made a covenant between Himself, His people and the Earth! And the perpetual sign confirming that covenant is the presence of the rainbow in the heavens. Whenever you see the rainbow in the skies, know of a surety that God made a covenant between man, the Earth and Himself. And that covenant states that God will never again destroy the Earth by the waters of a flood. But He will judge this earth, or this present, second world order, which is an order of judgment unto correction, by the holy fires of His consuming presence! Peter prophesied this: “But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men” (2 Peter 3:7). Very soon, and it may have already begun, God will judge this world by that consuming fire, which He is (Heb. 12:29). This present, second world order, is being “kept in store” by the Word of God, and “reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” Not until this process of the fiery judgments of the Lord on this present world order has concluded could there be a new Earth, wherein dwells the righteousness of Christ.
To show the importance the Lord gives to this covenant, we read this word: “And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth” (Gen. 9:16). This covenant that God made with the earth and every living creature on it is now called “the everlasting covenant,” giving it much greater significance and making it a perpetual covenant, which we must also respect and honor. When God makes a covenant with man, He makes it dependent on our ability to obey His Word and do His will. Also, The Lord made it clearly known that He originated this covenant, when He said, “And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you.” (Gen. 9:9-10). And His covenants with us are established firmly and securely, and cannot be disannulled or ignored. Also, His covenants are made with those He is presently speaking to, as well as to their seed, including those who had not yet been born and who were not yet capable of either giving or withholding their consent.
We are the beneficiaries of God’s covenants, yet we had nothing to say about them, nor could we have rejected them or given our consent, when God first made that covenant known. Yet, we are willingly obedient to His covenants and we also expect to receive the benefits provided by those covenants! God’s covenants with us are always more beneficial to us, especially if we will believe Him and trust Him to do what He said He would do! Thus, we read, “All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies” (Ps. 25:10). Because of our Father’s promises contained in His everlasting covenants, as well as our commitment to keep those covenants, we are on that spiritual path that is preparing us to receive a rewarding inheritance in the blessed Kingdom of our Father (Mt. 25:34)! And our inheritance also includes the fullness of the Life of Christ!
Our Father made a covenant between Himself, His people and the earth, for the simple reason that He is THE POSSESSOR of heaven and earth! Thus, it is written, “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all” (Gen 14:18-20). Why did Abraham give his tithes to Melchizedek? Because Abraham recognized Melchizedek as Christ, the Lord, as the one who blessed him and as the one who also is the possessor of heaven and earth! And since the Lord is the possessor of heaven and earth, He most certainly would not plan to destroy this earth and leave it barren and forsaken of mankind! Rather, He has a plan to redeem the Earth, bless it, fill it with redeemed people, and make it all fresh and NEW!
Not only will the Lord bless the Earth and make it new, but He will also bless all the nations of the earth that are on it (Gen. 18:18)! But there is one promise for one particular nation on earth. It is the nation or people of Israel, who represent God’s chosen people. Of them, it is written, “And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel; Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me ABOVE ALL PEOPLE: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation” (Ex. 19:3-6). This covenant was made with Moses on behalf of Israel, the chosen people of that day, and it extends to include the chosen people of this Day as well!
The original covenant was made between the Lord and Moses, which included Israel of that day. But it also applies to God’s chosen elect of today. We are also declared to be “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy” (1 Peter 2:9-10). Indeed, we are the people of the covenant for this new Day! Not only have we obtained His mercy, but Father made us His chosen vessels of mercy, to make known the riches of His glory on those of us He has prepared beforehand for that great glory!
With reference to this world, which the Lord has said He loves (Jo. 3:16), we find Him speaking very eloquently about it: “But as truly as I live, all the EARTH shall be filled with the glory of the LORD” (Num. 14:21). God’s Word says that the whole Earth shall be filled with His Glory! And He confirms it with HIS LIFE, by saying, “as truly as I live!” Other promises are: “He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.” And “LET all the earth fear the LORD: LET all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him” (Ps. 33:5 & 8). “For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace” (Ps. 37:9-11).
We also have these wonderful promises: “He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted IN THE EARTH” (Ps. 46:9-10). “ALL THE EARTH shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah” (Ps. 66:4). “Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things. And blessed be his glorious name for ever: and LET THE WHOLE EARTH be filled with his glory; Amen, and Amen” (Ps. 72:18-19).
In another psalm the word “LET” is used, as it is in the verses above, apparently to give a command. “Let” is the word God used to create the earth and all things of it. When God says “LET,” He is speaking or creating something into being. In His creative acts referred to in Genesis, the word “Let,” means to exist, be, or come to pass, and is always emphatic! Thus, the psalmist prophesied the Word of the Lord, when he declared, by the Spirit: “Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: THE WORLD also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously. LET the heavens rejoice, and LET THE EARTH be glad; LET the sea roar, and the fulness thereof. LET the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth” (Ps. 96:10-13).
This is what the world to come will be like when Father’s plan for “the restitution of all things” is fulfilled! Then, all the Earth shall be filled with the glory of the Lord, as well as His goodness! And all the inhabitants of the world shall stand in awe of Him! The evildoers shall be cut off and the wickedness of man shall no longer exist! There will be no trace of the wicked or their sins to be found anywhere on the new Earth! The Lord will make all wars to cease; He will be exalted among the heathen in every part of the new Earth! The entire new Earth, including everything of it and in it, shall worship the Lord and sing to His great Name! They will all bless His glorious Name forever, and will gladly acknowledge that the whole Earth is full of His Glory!
Then, the world to come will finally be firmly established, by the Spirit, so that it cannot be moved like it was in previous world orders! Then, the new Heavens will rejoice, and the new Earth will be glad! The fields will be abundantly fruitful and joyful, for the Lord has appeared to judge the Earth, the world and the people of it and in it, with His Truth! And all this restoration and reconciliation activity resulted from or grew out of that wonderful and glorious event, which is the manifestation of the sons of God! The Lord said of those overcoming sons of God: “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth” (Mt. 5:3-5). Indeed, we shall inherit the new Earth, or the world to come, and will no longer be subject to the rulers of this corrupt, evil and sinful world! And we shall rule and reign over it all in Love, Righteousness, Peace and Truth, along with Christ, our beloved elder Brother!
That Which was, Which is, and Which is to Come
We have seen that there are three world orders or kosmos, with each world order having its own heavens and earth! There is the world that was (2 Peter 3:6), the world that is now (2 Peter 3:7), and the world that is to come (2 Peter 3:13). And each of the three worlds has their own spiritual Heavens that governs them, along with the literal heavens or the sky, as well as their own earth! The first world was destroyed by the great flood of Noah’s day! The second world, which is this present world order, is reserved unto the fiery judgments of the Presence of the Lord, to be judged, corrected and replaced by an entirely new world order! And that new World is to be governed exclusively and entirely by Christ and His sons, who have been transformed to become redeeming kings and priests of God! They/we shall reign in the Kingdom of God with the power of an endless Life (Heb. 7:11-17)!
The Apostle Paul prayed for us, asking our Father, “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come” (Eph. 1:17-21). And this is also our prayer for each one who reads these pages! May our Lord grant each of us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Christ, that we might KNOW what this high calling is all about, and what His great purpose is for the Kingdom of God on earth, ”not only in this world, but also in that which is to come!” This present world is winding down to its final end! The days of this world are surely and definitely numbered!
Therefore, our major concern, our chief interest now, should not be for this present sin-cursed world, which is coming to an end with the fiery judgments of the Lord to correct it, but for that new world, which is the world to come! The prophets all prophesied about it, and our blessed Lord Himself also spoke of it, when He said, “Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, AND IN THE WORLD TO COME LIFE EVERLASTING” (Lu. 18:29-30). Of this much we may be certain: “Life Everlasting” comes with “the world to come!” And “the world to come” comes with “Life Everlasting!” That new World, or new Kosmos, includes the spiritual Heavens that governs it, along with a new literal heaven and a new literal earth, as well as all the people in it! And both “the world to come” and “Life Everlasting” are the result of the reign of the Christ, which includes His elect and chosen sons, in the blessed Kingdom of our Father!
Just as there is the world that was, the world that is, and the world that is to come, so also are there those three dimensions, or three distinct revelations and manifestations of the Christ! Our Lord Jesus Christ said of Himself, “I AM Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith THE LORD, WHICH IS, AND WHICH WAS, AND WHICH IS TO COME, the Almighty” (Rev. 1:8). And there also may be a manifestation or a revelation of Christ for each of the three world orders! Christ is revealed as He WHO WAS in the previous world, as He WHO IS in this present world, and as He WHO IS TO COME in the next world, or the world to come. We are growing spiritually to understand that the Christ has increased in His manifestation and in His Presence, with each world order, so that the Christ of today is greater than was the Christ of yesterday. And the Christ Who is to be revealed in the world to come will be much greater than the Christ of the present. Indeed, He Who is to come in the next world will be revealed, manifested and known as, Christ “THE ALMIGHTY!”
The Amplified translation of Rev. 1:8 gives that verse this way: “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, says the Lord God, He Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty (THE RULER OF ALL). [Isa 9:6.]” What a true and faithful rendering of that verse! The word “Almighty,” actually means “the all-ruling, God, as absolute and universal sovereign” (from Strong’s Concordance). Therefore, the final revelation and manifestation of Christ will be that of “THE ALMIGHTY, THE RULER OF ALL!” And when He is finally known and manifest as “THE RULER OF ALL,” in all the World, every person of every nation will bow to worship the Lord with true love and willing worship, acknowledging Him as their Savior, their Lord, and their ruling King, even the great, sovereign and eternal King of all the World, including all the Heavens (see Ro. 14:11).
Furthermore, when we use the term, “the Christ,” we are referring to the Body of Christ, which must include Jesus Christ, the first Son and all His brother-sons with Him. As members of the Body of Christ, we are also a living, vital part of “the Christ!” Therefore, with this spiritual understanding, we may know and understand that “the Christ” has grown and continues to grow, from Jesus, the first and original Son of God, to include all the sons of God from all previous ages to the present, who are all members of the same Body of Christ! Thus, the Christ of today is much greater, with a greater Presence and Power, than was the Christ of all the previous ages. He Who IS, is greater than He Who was, and He Who is to come will be much greater than all the previous revelations and manifestations of this magnificent and Almighty Christ, Who has grown and increased to become THE RULER OF ALL!
In this regard, we should also point out the obvious errors some make when speaking of Jesus and Christ. For example, it is clearly incorrect for anyone to say that “Christ died for our sins.” I have heard this statement made many times over the years, but I overlooked it, with the understanding that those who say it certainly mean no intentional disrespect of the Lord. Christ did not die, indeed, Christ cannot die, for He is Spirit! Jesus was God in the flesh! Jesus, who was a man of flesh and blood, died for our sins, not Christ! After Jesus was resurrected and then ascended, He became Christ, the Son of the living God (Mt. 16:16)! We, too, are following Jesus through the tests and trials of this “life!” We are also being “crucified” in the flesh, as He was, to “die” to the flesh and become a resurrected and Living son of God! Every true son, who dies to the flesh and is transformed by the Spirit, also becomes a vital and living member of the Christ of God! And, there are no shortcuts to His Glory and Life! To die to the flesh is the only way to receive that new Kingdom LIFE, which is the abundant, rich and full Life of Christ!
When we attempt to learn more about God and Christ, and of the blessed Kingdom of our Father, it seems there is no end to the living Truth of God, which we are discovering and learning. And there is so much more for us to discover about Him and His glorious Kingdom, that we soon realize we have only just begun to learn! If we think we know it all, we are sadly mistaken! There is much more to our blessed Lord than the many magnificent truths we have of Him now! He is everything to us! And we are beginning to learn just what that means. As our spiritual growth continues, we will soon realize that He is becoming much more to us and for us than we have ever imagined possible. With each test and trial that we endure, more of the ways of the flesh are removed from us, so that Christ, as well as His wisdom and His glorious Kingdom of Love, will continue to increase within us! Are the present tests and trials worth it? Indeed they are, and we are learning their value with each passing day! The anointed and living Word of the Lord describes what is taking place within us at this time, despite the apparent gloom of this night of gross, spiritual darkness: “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are (being) changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Cor. 3:18).
The scriptures of Truth confirm what we wrote in the paragraph above. For example, the Christ of the past has grown and increased, with the increase of God, so that He Who is, is much greater than He Who was. And, the Christ Who is to come, will be much greater than the Christ of the present. For us to become all that He is, we must certainly grow spiritually, even as the Christ is growing and increasing! We are assured that we are growing spiritually, and shall continue to grow, by the Spirit! We are being changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord, and will keep growing until we have reached the realm of His fullness! We will continue to grow spiritually, being changed into His image and likeness, until that final moment when we shall see Him as He is, to become all that He is! Not until we are transformed and in His full image and pure likeness can we say that we are at the end of our learning! Then, we will have the mind of Christ, and will think as He thinks, act as He acts and serve and minister as He serves and ministers! And the mind of Christ contains ALL TRUTH for the past, the present and the future!
With reference to His work with Israel of old, the Lord said this about Himself: “Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I am he” (Is. 41:4). Who is the Lord? He is the Christ, Who was the first in the order of man, and Who also shall be “WITH THE LAST!” As the first, Christ was alone! There was no man with Him when He was the first! Thus, we read, “Who hath declared from the beginning, that we may know? and beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? yea, there is none that sheweth, yea, there is none that declareth, yea, there is none that heareth your words. (He Who is) The first shall say to Zion, Behold, behold them: and I will give to Jerusalem one that bringeth good tidings. For I beheld, and there was NO MAN; even among them, and there was NO COUNSELLER, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word. Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion” (Is. 41:26-29). This is what the man of the flesh is, according to the wisdom of the mind of the Spirit: “they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion.” Finding no man who could bring good tidings to Jerusalem, and no counseller among them, Father had already determined to send Christ to be man’s Counseller, as well as our High Priest, to bring us the good news of the Kingdom of God.
Christ was the FIRST, the One Who was in the past, but He was alone! The Christ of the present, or He Who IS, has grown and increased to become the Christ of the present, Who has many with Him who are Christ’s. We read this truth in Paul’s epistle: “Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's” (2 Cor. 10:7). To be “Christ’s” is to be members of the Body of Christ, or members of the Christ. When we understand how many believers are members of the Body of Christ, or those who are Christ’s, we will realize that He has grown and increased with the increase of God.
The principle of INCREASE is built and established into and within both the Christ and the Kingdom of God! God does not change or increase, for He is always and ever the same in size, might, power and authority! But the Christ increases by adding new members to the Body of Christ! In the same way, the Kingdom of God also increases with the increase of God. These truths are borne out in this scripture, which is one of our favorites: “OF THE INCREASE OF HIS GOVERNMENT AND PEACE THERE SHALL BE NO END, upon the throne of David, and UPON HIS KINGDOM, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. THE ZEAL OF THE LORD OF HOSTS WILL PERFORM THIS” (Is. 9:7). The Christ is increasing and so is the Kingdom of God! We cannot see His growth, but He and His Kingdom are growing nevertheless! While we may be overwhelmed at times with the corruption and spiritual darkness of the world all around us, both the Christ and His Kingdom are growing and increasing with the increase of God! With what power are they growing and increasing? BY THE ZEAL OF THE LORD OF HOSTS!
The Christ of the past was alone in the beginning with no man to share His Kingdom or the power and glory of that Kingdom. But the Christ of the present, or He Who is, has grown by virtue of the many members of the Body of Christ who have been joined to Him, by the Spirit! And we are assured that the Christ Who is to come, will be much greater than all previous revelations and manifestations of Him, for many more believers will be joined to Him in the future, to become one Spirit with Him! The “end” of this revelation, or the end of the understanding of the Christ is this: “And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's” (1 Cor. 3:23). Thus, all who are IN CHRIST are Christ’s, and all who are in Christ also belong to the Father, so that God will be all in all! The Christ Who is to come, or the Christ of the world to come, will be “CHRIST, THE ALMIGHTY, AND THE RULER OF ALL!” He Who is to come, is also “Lord of lords, and King of kings: and THEY THAT ARE WITH HIM are called, and chosen, and faithful” (Rev. 17:14). The Christ of the past was alone and without any members in this earthly realm who could be with Him in power and glory! But now, at the final revelation and manifestation of the Christ, Who also is Lord of lords and King of kings, a mighty host of holy, perfected and transformed saints are with Him, and they are, each and all “called, and chosen, and faithful!”
Knowing that we are “members of Christ,” we will heed this solemn warning from the apostle: “Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit” (1 Cor. 6:15-17). We are joined to the Lord, and are, therefore, one Spirit! And we will not join ourselves to the harlotry of this corrupt and evil world and its Babylonish systems, whether religious or worldly systems, but will remain standing firm as “the members of Christ,...joined unto the Lord,” to be and continue to be ONE SPIRIT! This Christ shall bring the blessed Gospel, or the Good News of the Kingdom of God, not only to “Jerusalem,” but to all the universe as well!
The Christ Who is to come shall be anointed with all seven
of the Spirits of the Lord, as we read: “And the spirit of the LORD shall
rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel
and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; And shall make
him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after
the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with
righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek
of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with
the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be
the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins” (Is.
11:2-5). Not only is Christ, the Head, to be anointed with those seven Spirits,
but also Christ, the body! Then we will be transformed, and will no longer be
subject to this carnal mind, with which we would “judge after the sight
of his eyes, (and) reprove after the hearing of his ears.” To be anointed
with the seven Spirits of the Lord, as Christ, our Head, is anointed, will enable
us to judge the poor with righteousness and reprove the meek with equity. Then
this Christ shall rule and reign over all in every area and realm of Heaven
and Earth, bringing forth the new world to come and the greater fullness of
the Kingdom of God!
