Adam, Where Art Thou?
I was naked and afraid and I hid myself among the trees. We spend our life here on earth hiding among the trees in the shade provided by others, in an attempt to hide from God. You see trees in scripture are a type of man. The fall did two things, it revealed our nakedness and it caused us to believe a lie and forget the truth of God, His goodness and our identification with Him.
Deception led us into a realm of darkness, as we, in Adam partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and through the process of time, we have unknown God the father, unto death. In John, chapter 17, the Lord said “ To know you Father, is eternal life”. Then it follows, to not know the Father results in the process of death. The lie or misunderstanding of God has caused us to avoid, even fear Him. Rather than be exposed to the sunlight of his presence, we have thought it better to hide among the other trees of the garden, condemning and feeling condemned.
How do we hide among others? By pointing out their nakedness, in our self- righteousness, comparing ourselves, among ourselves. We love the concepts of law and competitiveness because it allows for opportunity to out perform the other, adding more fig leaves in an attempt to cover our own nakedness.
Keep in mind that Adam is not just the one man spoken of in the beginning of creation, he is every man. God sees only two men in the earth, the first Adam and the last Adam, who is the Lord from heaven. Everyone was born of the first unto death and everyone must be born of the last unto eternal life. In the first we were born of the flesh and learned a lie and in the last we are born of the spirit and learn the truth about God the Father.
The question was asked by God, “who told you that you were naked”? It appears, by the question that Adam did not become naked at the time he ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but his nakedness became known unto him after the partaking. Prior to the fall, God was his covering and there was no condemnation. Through the partaking of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he entered into a realm of condemnation which he had not known with God. He had not known nakedness, when he knew God as his covering, God did not make it an issue. God never told Adam he was naked, though he apparently knew that he was. Even in the beginning we see the truth of God’s grace and mercy. Now Adam finds himself in a realm, where he as god, knowing good and evil is himself forgetting the true God he once knew. Rather than desiring the presence of the wonderful God, he finds himself in fear of Him, not because God has changed but because his understanding of God has changed, through deception. Through the deception of the serpent, darkness has entered in and his decent begins, to an earthly understanding. The truth is forgotten, as a carnal earthly understanding takes it’s place and we become separated from God by the veil of the flesh. In the process of time we all become false witnesses of the very God that created us and, who’s offspring we are. We find ourselves born of fornication, having two fathers (John 8:41). The first act of adultery took place between Eve and the serpent when the serpent planted a seed in the woman’s mind.
The serpent being more cunning than any beast of the field worked his craftiness on the woman. As the apostle Paul stated in Scripture, “Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression”(1 Timothy 2:14). The woman listened to one, other than her husband, or her covering. The woman is a type of our soul and body, that which is outward and can be influenced. It is the living creature aspect, the beast of the field if you will, which the serpent is more cunning than. The man is the image and glory of God. The man is the head, or is to be the authority over the woman. He is her covering and she is the glory of the man (1 Cor. 11:3-12).
She is not to receive seed from another, she is the seed plot, or garden of her Lord. God will not except mixture. Mixture is what produced Cain and Abel and resulted in the first confrontation of brother against brother. All that we read about in scripture pertaining to Adam and Eve, the mother of all living is a type of what occurs in each and everyone of us, where it pertains to God and this world. Each one of us is a male and female. Our Spirit is the male component and our soul is the female component. Our soul is to be in submission to our Spirit and under the authority of the Spirit. It is only to receive from it’s husband who’s head is Christ. He who is joined to the Lord, is one Spirit. If the soul receives from another, (the god of this world), then she becomes a harlot and produces a mixture.
I hope that everyone reading these lines realizes that I am speaking metaphorically even as the Spirit reveals the scriptural accounts, intent. We each have a Spirit which, according to scripture is the candle of the Lord, searching the inward parts. The reborn or regenerated Spirit receives from God. We are espoused to one husband, even Christ. This is what is meant by us becoming the bride of Christ, having one husband, no longer receiving seed in our mind from the world, only the incorruptible word of God, Being transformed by it. The virtuous woman is in submission to her own husband. She does not commit fornication with the world system, but is faithful to her husband and is a pure expression of His will. Our Spirit, which is the husband is to be under the headship of Christ and is the glory of God. Our soul is the woman and is to receive and produce after her husband. She is under the covering of her husband and he is the power (authority) on her head, because of the angels. She is the glory of the man because she came out of man. The man is not without the woman or the woman without the man, in the lord.
I said all that to say this, I believe that when Eve (the woman) partook, Adam being one with her received also. When two are one, if one receives the other receives by default. Again, going back to what the apostle Paul wrote, Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Speaking metaphorically, each of us has a womanly aspect (soul) that can be deceived when out from under the covering of it’s male aspect (spirit).
When God said to Adam, “ Because you have hearkened unto the voice of your wife”, a principle was established. The man is not to receive from the woman but the woman from the man. I see in this also another great truth, Adam being a type of our Lord and Husband, I believe he entered into death to save the woman. Adam was a type of the spirit in each of us which became dormant, as we became soulish and earthly in nature, identifying with this world, and being deceived by the god of this world. The rule of the husband (Spirit of God) as Lord was diminished and the woman became a harlot producing after the spirit of the world, forgetting her first love.
The words “ Adam where art thou” are relevant today for each and everyone of us. God, the Father is still asking the question. How does all this apply to the Church, (body of Christ) today? We have a new husband. Remember the apostle Paul said in the book of Ephesians chapter five, “for this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church”. In the last Adam, we died to this world system that had us in bondage through fear of death, and we rose in newness of life in Christ. Now we are bone of His bone and flesh of His flesh making us one with Him through faith in the finished work of God.
However the temptation is still there to not believe all that God has said in Christ and walk in unbelief. It is possible for the woman who is espoused to one husband to be found an adulteress if her first husband is not dead (Romans 7:3). If she continues to walk after the law of her first husband, who is earthly, bearing his image, and confesses Christ, she is receiving from two husbands and her children are conceived in adultery. She cannot eat of both trees and produce Sons of the Kingdom. It is the difference between law and grace and good and evil and life and death.
God will not accept mixture. He will not accept a mixture of law and grace or good and evil nor life and death. God is pure and in Him is no darkness at all. If you walk in the light, as He is in the light, the blood of Christ keeps on cleansing you from all sin. But if we try, through the law to perform in a manner in which cleansing is obtained, we walk in darkness unless we keep the whole law, without infraction. You must be a virgin and the only way for us to be a virgin is to be made pure through Christ, by the grace of God not by works lest any man boast. Boasting, can only be done if one thinks that they have accomplished something. We are God’s workmanship and Christ is the author and finisher of our faith. Where with can we boast? If we started in the Spirit, are we now made perfect by the flesh? Salvation is not a matter of law and grace but grace alone. It is no longer a matter of good and evil but good alone, and it is no longer a matter of light and darkness but rather, light alone, and it is no longer a matter of life and death, but life alone. We are no longer in a realm of fear, but can come boldly before the throne of grace with a full heart of assurance.
As we come to know God our Father and His exceeding glory and
grace, perfect love casts out fear. We call Him Abba Father and find no condemnation,
as we stand in the perfection of Christ, in His presence. He has once again
covered our nakedness but not with the fig leaves of self righteousness, but
rather, with Himself. We no longer seek to hide our nakedness by pointing out
the nakedness of others, as judges one, of another but rather seek to cover
for the nakedness of others, through intercession.
This is the result of knowing who we are and how we are in Christ contrary to
our performance at times and all that we see, that might appear in opposition
to us.
